Review: Clan Warfare

Battle of the Halls has commenced!

Last night The Bubble welcomed the most famous inter-hall event of the year – Clan Warfare. Eight undergraduate halls gathered in Venue One to show how St Andrews defines hall pride.

The battle began at the doors, with each ‘clan’ singing their hall song.  Worth mentioning is John Burnet, whose EVERY residents turned up in their traditional clan dress of green shirts with the hall logo on it. Everyone looked… not quite dapper… but at least involved covered in face paint!   Once everyone was in Venue 1, Leon O’Rourke entered the stage to invite one student from each hall to represent their clan with a series of grueling tasks… sort of.

The first task was to get as many phone numbers written down on the representative’s vest as possible.  A marshmallow eating challenge, scavenger hunt, and dancing contest followed – gripping stuff. The last two remaining students were from DRA and Macintosh hall. who went head to head for the grand title.  Both had to take an egg from the box that had five boiled eggs and only one raw egg, the egg that was the raw one defined the loser, and DRA chose the short straw.

This makes Macintosh the winner of Clan Warfare 2014.  Their well-deserved prize was a bucket of ice (Ice Bucket Challenge as a reward?! Okay!) thrown on the McIntosh rep to great delight from the crowd.

Special credits should be given to #NELFUN who were responsible for the music throughout the night . Every challenge was separated with a 20-minute break, and each break was spent on the dance floor grooving on down and getting fully into the spirit of Freshers’ Week.

All of the  Halls took the battle to a whole new level by not only supporting their representatives on stage, but also competing with each other on the dance floor.  A fun night of banter, cheerful rivalry, and some good old fashioned mess.
