Five things to do today

It’s another day of Freshers’ Week and St Andrews still has plenty of treats up its sleeve

1. Get tipsy on champers

Start your day classily by sipping champagne at Christian Union’s Champagne Welcoming Brunch in St Mary’s Quad, South Street. Get there by 10:30 to make the most of the free bubbly and listen to members share their experiences of St Andrews.

2. Join the acting set

If you’re interested in getting involved in theatre at St Andrews, onstage or behind the scenes, make sure you attend Mermaids’ ‘Give It A Go Day.’ Drop into the Barron Theatre on North Street between 11:00 and 18:00 to meet other performing arts fanatics and find out how to be a part of St Andrews’ talented acting set.

3. Be charitable

Although summer has come to an end, there’s still just enough sunlight and warmth left for you to enjoy the Charities Campaign Welcome Picnic in St Mary’s Quad. It starts at 13:00 and promises guests free food and information about upcoming balls and events. If you’re not interested in helping out with events or joining the committee, I recommend going along anyway to get a glimpse of St Andrews’ mascot, Rory McLion. He’s super cute and cuddly!

4. Have a laugh with CoppaFeel! Society

Before heading to the Union for DJ Drummer AFISHAL’s epic set, enjoy a few glasses of wine at the Barron Theatre with members of CoppaFeel! Society. Socialise with funny females and predrink for free, while learning about the charity the society supports, and how you can take part in the hilarity.

5. Party with DJ Drummer AFISHAL

Apparently a big dog in the DJing industry, DJ Drummer AFISHAL is coming to St Andrews to mix us up some music on his light up drums, creating an audible and visual experience like no other. If you’re a lucky holder of a Golden Ticket, a pass which grants entry to the five Freshers’ Week Union events, your entry is free. Otherwise it’s £7. Doors open at 22:00.
