University issues safety email following two attacks

You can never be too safe!

There have been two more alleged assaults in the lanes in the North Haugh and Kinburn Park areas. On the 9th of April, a 27 year old woman was raped followed by an 18 year old that was indecently assaulted on the 10th. Both incidents took place in the early hours of the morning.

The Proctor has issued an email to all students and staff warning them to be careful. She has encouraged people not to walk alone in the dark, to stay in well-lit areas and to let Residence Wardens and Police know about any suspicious activity.

The Police are looking for a man between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10in, wearing a dark puffa jacket, dark  tracksuit bottoms and a grey beanie hat. They encourage anyone who knows anything to come forward.

The email assures us that the University is cooperating with Police Scotland and that there will be additional security patrols in the areas concerned. There will also be additional safety talks within halls, and rape alarms are being provided for free in order to help ensure safety of students. These alarms are available in the General Office of the Union as well as the Director of Representation’s Office.
