The Rector’s Cafe to open today

FINALLY our town gets a coffeeshop!

While the Union may look as though it’s useable space is shrinking as we watch, what with the loss of the Main Bar this Christmas, it looks as though things are about to change.

This Monday the Rector’s Café opens at the front of the Student’s Union to satisfy all of our caffeine-addict needs. The cafe will feature all sorts of specialty coffees as well as a range of teas and hot chocolate for those not-so-sold on the world of latte’s. It will also have food such as panini’s, cakes, and other typical cafe fare.

The best news for those who like to avoid going home, or to the library, is that the cafe will be open fairly late. Generous opening hours of 9am to 10pm mean that there will be over 12 hours of solid study time available, or just an early pre-lecture energy rush in a biodegradable cup.

That’s right, the cafe also aims to be as ecologically sound as it can be, with locally and regionally sourced products where available and the aforementioned biodegradable products.

Soon after, University apparel shop BESS will be relocating right next to the cafe to their permanent home at the front of the building.

The opening of the Rector’s Café is one of many new spaces that are to be renovated and opened over the next year, for now it will provide another place to grab a hot drink and warm up against the biting Scottish winds.
