The 86th Annual Oscars: Best Dressed

The Oscars: What was hot and what was not?

Last Sunday was the 86th Annual Oscar Academy Awards in Los Angeles. Before heading into the Dolby Theatre, the stars on the red carpet were looking their best. Particularly, this year, a “twenties” style themed the fashion on Hollywood’s biggest night. Nonetheless, here is a list of best dressed—none of which fit this trend.

To begin with, let’s start with the shorthaired Jennifer Lawrence—because who doesn’t love her—who wore red Christian Dior. It wasn’t so much the dress, but the necklace that drooped down her back is what completely made the outfit.

And now, queue all the women who pulled off trying to be just as shiny as the Oscar statue they hope to receive – one day.

Kate Hudson looked beautiful in a slim-fitting silver gown—a modern angel, if you will.

Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett looked as ethereal as when she plays the striking middle earth character Galadriel.

Looking to the fashion sported by Hollywood’s elders, Glenn Close wins. Her silhouetted figure in this modest, black full-sleeved dress as she stood behind the microphone presenting was simply divine. You go Glen!

Now, I know what everyone is thinking: Lupita Nyong must, undoubtedly, have the best stylist in Hollywood. Never has she missed the bullseye when making her red carpet appearances this year. The Oscars was no different, as she received the award for Best Supporting Actress in a gown that gave the image of a contemporary Cinderella.

Although, for me, Ellen DeGeneres wins best dressed for this year’s female Oscar attendees. Her famous suit style never ceases to amaze—it is effortless, chic and wholly embodies her personality. This individualism is ideal in red carpet style.

She went from a navy and black suit with glossy velvet jacket and white necktie to a flawless full white suit.

As for the men:

Jim Carrey wore an effervescent deep blue suit jacket over a black dress shirt and pants. With black bow tie, this outfit was surprisingly perfect on the comedy star.

Jared Leto’s white tux, diamond buttons and red bow tie combo was absolutely spot-on. No wonder he won Best Supporting Actor (well, with help from his blue eyes).

Now even though he is not an actor, the It-artist Pharrell Williams stood out during his performance. No, not because of his Canadian Mounty-type hat, but because of his intensely bright, solid, red shoes.

The handsome Leonardo DiCaprio in a navy blue suit – could easily be mistaken for black – was best dressed for the men. Yes, we all know, he didn’t win an Oscar (and never has) but keeping it simple with this sleek tux apparel made him look great whilst losing.
