Five things you must do this week…
Sports & salsa…
ACHIK Launch Party: There is nothing like a charitable cause which can help you look chic, second only to a charitable cause which gives you wine. With items made from alpacas, proven to be the cosiest animals in the world, ACHIK will be at Zest on South St this Thursday, supporting small business owners in Guatemala and Bolivia by selling their handwoven wares. More info and cute pics here.
Salsa Classes: The Hispanic Society offer weekly salsa dancing classes for a ridiculously small sum (£3 per week or £8 for 5!) and if you are here to land a prince[ss] (who isn’t) then being able to dance like a sexy Spaniard is very definitely a skill you will need. They welcome complete beginners, so don’t be shy!
Big BUCS: St Andrews is actually winning at some sport, and this Wednesday is going to be a big one. Several BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) title and league deciders are being played, including the rugby championship vs Glasgow, lacrosse quarter final vs Northumbria and basketball quarter final vs Dundee. Come, cheer, wave champagne bottles and St A’s flags.
Eating Disorders Awareness Week: Look out for a big heart around town on Tuesday, as the Student Minds people will be out and about asking you what you love about yourself and your body, writing it on a post-it and sticking it on the heart. I will be writing ‘takes the abuse of two trips to Rascals and one to Dominoes in the space of 24 hours’ (yes I felt sick, no I don’t regret it, no the new Rascals menu isn’t that great). They’ve got other events going on throughout the week too, so be sure to check it out here.
Bindi: Bollywood is back, with the Asian fashion fusion crowd representing this Friday at 1 Golf Place. They always have the most floor-filled, colour crazy, mad fun parties – you’d be a fool to miss it. Ticket sales Tuesday and Wednesday, more info here.
