Itchy Feet: What to Wear

Itchy Feet is BACK and so is our swingin’ wardrobes.

Itchy Feet is back in St Andrews this Thursday. The unique, crowd pleasing event will feature two exciting DJs, one spinning rock n roll and the other playing funky soul, rhythm and blues and modern tracks.

If you’re into real dancing and still haunted by the memory of your groovy baby – yeah! moves in the Lizard at GIG’s Studio 54, this is the event for you. As Head of Itchy Feet in St Andrews Jamie Calder-Smith said, “Itchy Feet offers a well needed alternative to the generic music we get on our usual night out.”

Time to awaken the ol’ Fred Astaire within and head to the dance floor. Need some vintage inspiration?

Looks like fun. So, what to wear when you want to dance, laugh, thrill and be thrilled as you get up offa that thing?

Gals – a dress, skirt or glamorous loose, silky trousers are the starting point. The skirt musn’t be of the skintight variety – your legs are not to be bandaged together at Itchy Feet! Would be heinous to deny your legs freedom from all lyrca based fabrics tonight. Just say no to lyrca!

Jill Stuart Fall 2014 RTW

Pastels have been making a comeback (see Fall 2014 RTW: Kaelen, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren) and this seems a sugar sweet night to let them out. Methinks a good change from your go-to cool-girl-all-black-everything. You can still be a cool girl in pastels. Wink.

Flirty skirting – Milly Pre Fall 2014

If this talk of pastels has you gobsmacked then please do white (on white on white) or mod-inspired white with black à la Kate Moss.

Shoes – a pair conducive to physical activity perhaps? Dust off the dancing shoes? Well, la-di-da. Let’s think boots or a pointy toed pair to toughen up the whites and pastels. Or, screw them all, you’ll be dancing in your converse if you want to.

And pour la beauté, I love a look of fresh pink cheeks and a luminous well lined eye. Black, very black, mascara is a must, as are kissable lips. Because good dancing leads to good kissing then – oh BEHAVE!

Gentlemen, ah, gentlemen: to Itchy Feet wear a not-too-tight but well tailored shirt, add a traditional tie or a bowtie with personality if you want a certain someone to give you a another look. Roll up your shirt sleeves when things heat up. Don’t shy away from patterns, dress with a sense of humour and keep it chic. Slightly loose, but not too loose trousers are best suited to dancing. Think modern day Cary Grant – suave with a smile.

On Thursday night, wear what puts a smile on your face because you’ll be wearing that smile a lot if you let Itchy Feet get to you. And remember: hydration for duration.
