5 reasons Career Launch: Employability Conference will be totally awesome

Get LAUNCHED.

The employability conference, primarily aimed at (but not at all limited to) 3rd and 4th years, is taking place from the 23rd – 25th of January. Here are five reasons why your attendance could be doing your post-graduation self a big favour…

Career Inspiration: For those of us who get goose bumps thinking about the future and the lonely directionless life you might lead, fear no longer. The conference can help you will gain an improved clarity around what you want to do, as well as introducing you to several professionals from places such as Teach First and Accenture. This will help you figure out the answer to that terribly annoying question, ‘So what do you want to do with that degree?’

CV and Interview Practice: Lets be honest, usually the words cv and interview are just a signal that the care free days of revelry at unay do indeed come to an end. But Career Launch: Employability conference is your shoulder to cry on. You will get access to things like 1:1 mock interviews with feedback, CV writing critique, and assessment centre style ‘team challenges’.

Skills Development: The conference will focus on skills like teamwork, communication and presentation. When competing for a job with plenty of other people, you can sit in the reception area with a quiet confidence that you have seriously honed all those skills employers are looking for. Don’t forget to sweetly wish everyone else good luck…

Food: It’s the biggest bargain of your life! You gain all this new knowledge from experts in the field as well as a gourmet feast everyday for the duration of the conference. I am talking 3 course meals, marinated king prawn brochettes, wine that isn’t Tesco value…the whole works really. This is key for those of you who secretly mostly look forward to the dining aspects of events.

Freebies: Another guilty pleasure. Conference participants have the opportunity to be part of an exclusive Microsoft Office Specialist pilot group. This means you have the chance all through semester 2 to study for and sit MOS exams (a globally recognised IT qualification). Normally these exams are £65 so this is a great cost saving, and another way to enhance your employability! WOAH…
