St Andrews pummel old rivals

Go team!

The St Andrews mens rugby 1st XV beat their Edinburgh rivals 24-15 in a tough contest on Saturday 28th September.

The match is the oldest varsity rugby fixture in the world and predates that between Oxford and Cambridge. St Andrews had not won since 2008; Captain Jeremy Gordon told ‘In At The Side‘ magazine in a post-match interview how delighted the team was with this monumental victory.

It was an “extremely physical game”, said Director of Rugby David Ross. With only 9 points between them, it certainly seems so.

Director of Sport and Exercise Stephen Stewart praised the team for the performancing, stating that they “were a credit to the University, to Scottish rugby and to student sport.”
