Skinted or printed?

A new kind of jumper sweeps the East Fife Coast.

| UPDATED

This autumn/winter is all about the printed jumper. On returning to St Andrews, students have ditched last season’s monochrome prints for jazzier alternatives, from houndstooth to colour-drenched checks. This turn in trend is adding a flicker of colour and irony to our small town’s wintry streets as students meander around in printed, sequined, fur-lined and velvety jumpers. Now is the perfect time to stand out and get noticed by that someone special, as donning kooky prints or bejeweled piecesmight finally give you the confidence to pursue your desire.

QCumber

QCumber’s fruity jumpers have been spotted imprinting torsos all over town, coming in a variety of colours and designs of fruit (including strawberries, pineapple and kiwi amongst others), my favourite being cucumber slices on a light pink background. The QC Team have a rare aesthetic appreciation for fruit and vegetables, considering their beauty underrated in the world of fashion, and set up QCumber after a spontaneous food fight resulted in a perfect imprint on a participant’s white jumper. They also sell T-shirts, shorts and adorable striped bobble hats (with a choice of a strawberry or pineapple bobble!) If you mention the code ‘STANDREWS1’ at the checkout, you’ll get 20% off your fruity purchase.

Bryan Lichtenberg

As well as taking part in the fruity fun, St Andrews’ students are wearing jumpers by Bryan Lichtenberg, who splashes his witty take on fashion house names all over hoodies, t-shirts, beanies and caps. Nothing spells street cool more than a Homiés for Hermès or Féline for Céline piece, model Cara Delevigne often snapped off-duty in a bright orange Homiés beanie. The brand has also been seen on models Jourdan Dunn, Ruby Aldridge and Jasmine Tookes; we are in good company!

Orphan’s Arms

If you’re looking for something a little more subdued, take a look at the selection over at The Orphan’s Arms. This East-London brand creates hand-printed jumpers and t-shirts with vintage iconography and illustrations, all topped off with a modern, British twist. We’ve got our eye on the Keep Lovers cropped sweatshirt and the English Teaoversized pullover, both of which ooze Brick Lane cool. They also hold frequent sales on their website, so keep a look out for bargains.

Lazy Oaf

Lazy Oaf is another home-grown brand which started life as a t-shirt collection created in company director Gemma Shield’s garage. The brand has now expanded into knitwear, shoes and stationary, all of which is designed to make people smile. With pieces inspired by cartoons, pop culture and the 90s, their website is a visual feast of colour. Take a look at their mouth-watering Xlent Sweatshirt, which is inspired by classic British sweets! If you’re afraid of bright colours, or of people mistaking your garments for edible food, their Bits N Bobs sweater might be more up your street.

Whether you decide to fill your wardrobe with fruit themed or witty jumpers, you will look effortlessly cool walking the streets of St Andrews, while also rousing the jealousy of anyone ignorant of these marvelous creations. If none of these designs appeal to you/ you’re bank account now due to St Andrews’ ridiculous rental rates, don’t forget that you can easily customize old jumpers by adding studs or even tie-dyeing them to ensure that you remain on trend this autumn/winter.
