The union may be under piles of construction, but Director of Events and Services Dan Palmer is promising a Fresher’s Week so unforgettable, we won’t remember a thing the next morning.

His first announcement for Fresher’s Week 2014 notes a record-smashing 11 events, including a massive FS2014 launch party at Balgove, STARFIELDS. Of course the ever-present Bop takes place on Friday the 13th. With these, the Union is introducing a brand new monthly “cheese night”: Rewind. Expect plenty of mozarella, parmesan and gorgonLOLza.

Rewind is following on the heels of last year’s sell-out VengaBoys performance with monthly throwbacks to our favorite tween jams (who are we kidding, favorite current jams), beginning with S Club Party, featuring Bradley and Paul (the fit ones!). S Club Party has sold a death defying 14 million records worldwide, most of which are stored in the very backs of our closets. Time to dust ‘em off.

Palmer says of Rewind, “we all know someone who sneakily listens to some good old cheese in the library, or goes wild when a favourite from their ‘youth’ plays on a night out, and bringing back the classic hit Vengaboys last year was a sellout success. Our new-look Saturday night will ensure our events are as varied and dynamic as possible.”

Rewind is just one aspect of these new Saturday nights, which cycle monthly. These include club nights like a silent disco (Saturday 21st), live music, and Unitrash by Ministry of Sound, in which Ministry DJs play live at the Union. Keep checking The Stand for Freshers 2014 updates… it’s great to be back!
