Yesterday afternoon The Kate Kennedy Club hosted their annual six-a-side football tournmanet at the university astro pitches: 25 teams, 5 groups and 100 beers up for grabs.

With the Sunday League tournament over, the KK sixes are a chance for the best teams to test themselves at the quick-pace, intense style of six-a-side. The standard is always high, with teams like the Strokers and the Beavers putting out a strong selection. The games last 10 minutes each; a single mistake could knock your team out of the competition, as was the case with many squads. We asked Chris Travis, centre-defensive midfielder for the mighty Bianconeri (they were knocked out in the group stages, despite their valiant efforts), how he felt about his afternoon of football culminating in a disappointing defeat: “For f***’s sake! C***! I’ll f***ing kill everyone!” he said. Emotions were clearly running high.

The tournament is nonethless one of the most enjoyable sporting events of the year. Over 175 players came together on a beautifully sunny afternoon for an enjoyable day as well as a ferocious competition. The KK even organised a BBQ near the pitches, fuelling the players as they went along.

The Strokers eventually took first place, with Joga Bonito coming second and League Champs third. Congratulations and till next year!
