First years Noah and Zac Norbash are St Andrews’ own Big Twins On Campus and members of every society under the sun (including and not limited to Clay Pigeon Club, Brass Band, Malaysian Society, Russian Society, Hispanic Society, Islamic Society… the list could literally go on forever). The Stand paired the boys up with the lovely MacArthur sisters, Kate (first year Management and Economics), and Alice (first year Medic at University of Edinburgh), who love hockey and sailing.

Zac and Noah on Kate and Alice

Pre-date, what were you hoping for?

We wanted to have a good laugh and make some new friends. Noah had a sneaking suspicion that twin girls would be too hard to find, so he was expecting just two girls who were really close, maybe roommates. We half-expected that we would also know the date (because we’re so incredibly famous, duh).

First impressions?

Zac: Twins! I knew it!!

Noah: How on Earth did Teresa manage this?

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your dates?

That Kate and Alice are going to be sailing instructors at separate Jewish summer camps in New Jersey even though they’re not Jewish.

Any interesting conversation topics?

We talked about film, siblings, how we’re all apathetic. Also about the bangin’ club scene in Edinburgh, Alice’s commute times in Edinburgh, and how great Hawaii is.

What did you order to eat? To drink?

We both had the camembert starter, one of us had the steak pie and the other had fish and chips. We then ordered sticky toffee pudding, with just water to drink. Everything was delicious, and the chairs at The Oakrooms were just as plush as expected.

Rate your evening out of a 10.

We’d give it a 10. There wasn’t much room for improvement, and it’s always exciting meeting other pairs of twins.

Kate and Alice on Zac and Noah

Pre-date, what were you hoping for?

Guys who were fun to have dinner with and had good chat. Zac and Noah seemed very similar, and they were very chatty and bubbly.

Interesting conversation topics?

We talked about their life in America and what made them choose to go to the same university, because we purposely avoided doing that! We also learned that they have literally never spent a day apart.

What did you have to eat? To drink?

We had chicken skewers and prawns to start, scampi and chicken for a main, and then sticky toffee pudding and strawberry tart to finish off – it was all delicious. We had wine to drink.

Would you introduce your date to your friends?

Yes, even though everyone seems to already know who they are.

Rate your evening out of a ten.

We gave it an 8. It was a really fun evening overall!
