Five things you must listen to: Party in the USA

To celebrate the return of FRAT NIIIGHT to Venue 1 this Tuesday, and as a shout out to our former colonial subjects who constitute a staggering 97% of the St Andrews population and an even more astounding 150% of the School of International Relations, The Stand is draping itself in the red, white and blue for five Lady Liberty-loving tunes.

I hope that guitar isn’t wooden, because Hendrix is SHREDDING it.

To be honest, it was hard enough not to make this week’s selection completely Boss-centric, let alone the exclusion of Born in the USA here. However, because of that song’s continued misreading by zealously patriotic cretins everywhere, I’ve instead plumped for this foot-stomper from last year’s Wrecking Ball instead.

4) America, Cast of West Side Story 

Puerto Rican immigrants sing of the eternal allure of the US of A and the boundless sense of opportunity it provides for the disenfranchised. Unsurprisingly, it has never been played at the Republican National Convention.

5) California, Phantom Planet 

Ah Ryan, Seth, Marissa, Summer, Sandy etc., we hardly knew ye. Sigh.
