Green week is back and this time round it’s bigger and better than ever. From the 10th – 16th of March there are plenty of opportunities for everyone to get involved. Here’s just a taster of what’s in store.

Monday 11th: What takes one battery, four bikes and team of energetic students to power? Pop over to Church Square from 9am-6pm to find out. Each team will have 30 minutes to peddle their way to generating as much cycletricity as possible to power the ‘Wee Green Machine’. So make like Bradley Wiggins and don your finest lycra to go represent your club!  For a spot of R&R from all the cycling antics there will be a screening of the documentary, Trashed, hosted by Transition. BYOPopcorn and head on down to the Medical Sciences Building to watch this film which aims to highlight solutions to environmental problems.

Tuesday 12th: Time for a spring clean? St And Re-Use will be holding a drop off for you to donate any unwanted items you have accumulated and send them to a new home. Those old unwanted first year text books gathering dust on the shelves or your old clothes might find a new loving home! Yeah, it’s time for them to go. You can also pick up any items that catch your eye. Motivation for a clear-out and chance for guilt free shopping? Yes please.

Wednesday 13th: For budding green fingers; students, staff and the community are all invited to Fife Park between 1-5pm to plant a tree to commemorate the University’s 600th Anniversary.  To learn more about the importance of planting woodlands, check out woodlandtrust.org.

Thursday 14th: For those of you who relish the 8 o’clock BBC 2 slot on a Monday and are quite happy to support Green Week from the warmth and comfort of indoors, come along to the Green Week pub quiz at the Rule at 8:00pm on Thursday 14th to show off your environmental knowledge, University Challenge style. Get your thinking caps on for some witty team names that would make even Jeremy crack a smile.

Friday 15th:  St Andrews welcomes sustainable seafood expert, Mr Edward Cassano, to give a talk on… you guessed it, Sustainable Seafood. Speaking at the Irvine Lecture Theatre from 10:30 until 12:00, the leading global expert will be discuss the introduction of sustainable seafood and looking at current progress. 

So whether you’re a pioneering environmental campaigner, or contented chilling at the pub quiz, be sure to dig into the array of treats on offer over Green Week. There are lots more events on throughout the week so be sure not to miss the boat.
