Shrove Tuesday: Who doesn’t love appropriating religious occasions for totally secular purposes? This Tuesday is indeed Pancake Day; we at The Stand love our food and think you should make an evening of it. Have the neighbours round and show them all how excellent you are at sticking half-cooked pancake mixture to the ceiling – no fear if you don’t have the utensils or the skills, Tesco Value pancakes start from a mere 20p. For the daring among you, just remember flour, eggs, milk, lemon, sugar, bam! Tasty treats for all. And if you’re busy thinking about what to give up for Lent (starting on Wednesday), just remember Jesus didn’t die so you could suffer without chocolate for forty whole days. He understands. Have a Mars bar.

Ré Pictures Launch: So after you’ve scraped the eggy mess from the kitchen ceiling, get yourself down to The Barron for a (free!) drinks party with the newest committee in town – formerly Rogue Productions, the film-making sector of the Student Association has undergone a remarkable refurbishment, complete with new website, new equipment and new faces. For anyone interested in any aspect of filmmaking, these are the people to talk to, with funding and insider industry advice all part of the service. Drinks from 7.30pm and chats on the Half Cut Film Festival, 60 Hour Film Blitz, or any other projects you may want to discuss.

Eating Disorder Awareness Week: The Student Run Selp Help group (SRSH) are expanding on last year’s successful Awareness Week and putting on a full programme of events for you to enjoy. With awesome (free!) yoga sessions, a swap shop (as a fashion loving town, we know this event is no charity jumble – new wardrobe anyone?), creative writing sessions and much, much more, there is no reason not to be aware of all the body love being passed around.

Take advantage of Valentine’s Deals: Even if you will be forlorn this Thursday, there are plenty of deals out there that no one can stop you from claiming, no matter how unloved you may really be. Grab a friend, flat mate, or even a complete stranger (if you’re that lonely, what do you have to lose?), and go get a yummy Vic Valentines Sharing Platter for two, or one of many other 14th Feb specials to be found around town at reputable venues such as Zizzi, Balaka or The Doll’s House.

Sin City: I don’t think I’ve ever recommended this, probably because I went for the first time last week, and I definitely like to try things out before I advise you all to go throw yourselves at them. Turns out it was jolly good fun, and the amount of change I got from three drinks and a £5 note was a source of endless joy. You should all definitely go this Saturday, because we all know Venue 1 works on a the-more-the-merrier basis.
