Having now been in St Andrews almost an entire semester I was a little confused when I rocked up to the DONT WALK launch party at the Vic on Tuesday, only to find girls in mini dresses and heels – two items of clothing I have been unfamiliar with over the past three months. Awkwardly looking down at my Converse, it was needless to say that I felt somewhat underdressed compared to the models and stylishly-clad bodies flitting about.

The DW committee had made sure to deck the place out in promo posters and photos of all the 21 models. The black and white images really complemented the décor of the venue, adding to the chilled mood. The complimentary cocktails for all guests also went down a treat and compensated for the ticket price of £10. The drinks were fun and fresh and very ‘DONT WALK’ – one called ‘D’, which was a red raspberry gin fizz and the other ‘W’ a green mojito. The term ‘traffic light exotic’ springs to mind.

In the VIP area, guests were treated to complementary canapés, Mitchells deli platters and delicious cupcakes. Those who forked out £15 for VIP tickets were also treated to goody bags with Cath Kidston soap, a discount card for the Glass House, Teapigs tea bag (who knew chocolate flavoured tea would taste so good?) and yes, a Tunnocks caramel wafer amongst other things.

The music for the evening was somewhat eclectic but very chic and great for a bit of boogying. Alex Kirkbride created a chilled vibe in the main bar with a cool mix of house and lounge music, and for those looking for more of a party, Calum Bryant got guests on the dancefloor with a hip-hop playlist of current chart anthems and some old-school classics (embarrassingly, ‘No Letting Go’ by Wayne Wonder was a personal favourite).

The photobooth was a little different and fun for the evening, although the constant presence of photographers around the venue was my worst nightmare and if anyone tags me, I will not be impressed.

All in all, the DONT WALK committee provided a cool and unique night. Refreshingly different to anything else I’ve been to in St Andrews, it set the scene for a fashionable and imaginative fashion show.
