The St Andrews delegation graced the streets of London in a procession laced with the occasional cross-dressed historical figure in the Lord Mayor’s Parade in London, last Saturday. The show is the largest non-rehearsed parade in the world, and one of London’s most famous annual events.

Invited to march in honor of the University’s 600th Anniversary (have you heard of it?), selected St Andrews students, sabbatical officers, and administration marched the streets of London in livery exemplifying the St Andrews spirit. The group included a Ben Franklin, Mary Queen of Scots, and one lucky student dressed as John Cleese.

SSC Association Chair Emmanuel Michelakakis said of his experience, “It was a really inspiring experience! It was really touching to see people recognise us and get excited about seeing our University and cheer us on.”

Second year David Maitland Gardner agreed when he elegantly stated, “It was quite an honour to lead our whole group and to be so involved in such a milestone of the university’s life. The show just had a happy atmosphere and it was quite cool to have everyone cheer you on as you walked down the street. I felt a bit like a celebrity – except when, at one point, I almost slipped in the smeared horse shit on the street.”
