The day has finally come. Late night library session will now take on a whole new meaning as the glass gates are set to open for a full 24 hours.

The main library will see revellers (frustrated workers) throughout the night over the revision period and first week of the exam diet. All four floors will be open for your late night needs. From the 1st-14th of December you can officially spend all day in the library. For the rest of the period opening hours will be 7am-2am.

Whilst some may refer to the gates as “the demon gates of hell” it is actually because of the new technology that Amanda Litherland, DoRep, has been able to push for this trial period. They allow data to be collected on how many people are entering the library, for how long and at what times. If the 24 hours leads to a huge increase in use there is potential for this to become a more permanent feature.

Library-loving third year Alexandra Holroyd says, “I’m excited to see the new dynamics of late-night sessions; this will change everything”. Will there be more pyjamas present on the green chairs? Second year Mia Clayton couldn’t quite contain her excitement when asked her thoughts but came up with, “this is super fudging awesome”.

Woman of the hour, Amanda Litherland spoke to The Stand and said, “I’m absolutely delighted to have fulfilled one of my campaign pledges and it wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of library staff!”

Our DoRep campaigned on those famous words, “everyday I’m representin'”, yes you are, Amanda Litherland.
