(Though a bit late – sorry), we’re here with a double interview from Strokers’ Captain Geordie Stewart and Beavers’ Captain Marc Blomberg, not long after the Sunday League clash of the season. This rivalry is ancient and hot-blooded, and this year it was an emphatic 3-1 win for the Strokers.

How does it feel to have won/lost?
Marc: Fuck off.
Geordie: Even for a Beavers vs Strokers contest, it was a pretty feisty clash so it was brilliant to come out on top again.

Tell us a little bit about this ancient rivalry.
M: Ask Geordie Stewart.
G: Mutual respect, enough pre-match talk to satisfy any sporting occasion, but basically a battle between the two oldest and most successful Sunday League teams.

Highlight of your Sunday League career?
M: Being chosen captain of the Beavers.
G: Either captaining the Strokers to a league title or our 5-0 record against the Beavers.

How does the team bond outside of matches/training?
M: We have socials where we sit down and enjoy each others company with a pint or two.
G: We are a group of mates first so like anyone else we have a few drinks and a good time as a team whilst proudly wearing our 70s Palermo kit.

If you were a professional player, how much do you think you’d be worth?
M: More than Geordie Stewart.
G: No comment… I’m a one club player.

What is the “Fire in the Hole”?
G: Ah yes, our grenade celebration that combines athleticism (n.b. Jack Merriman), improvisation and awareness.

Why should people support the Beavers/Strokers?
M: We are the only team that plays proper football. We are also the only team that can lose a game and still get to fuck the prom queen.
G: National pride, footballing flare and because it’s Prince William‘s former team.

And on that bomb-shell, thank you to Marc and Geordie and see you next week!

Ouch.
