Who: The Blueswater

Where: Formed in St Andrews in 2008, but now residentially based in Edinburgh.

What: A mix of blues, soul, jazz, rock and funk with fantastic instrumentation and beats that you can’t help dancing to. Oh, and not to mention there are a LOT of them. An all-singing, talented ensemble that are determined to bring some funkiness into your life. Nothing sounds better!

Band on Band: Felipe Schrieberg, Frontman.

“We’ve tended to model ourselves after Chicago blues ensembles, such as Elmore James and Muddy Waters. We want to capture some of the energy that these acts had back in the day; get the audiences going wild. That said, we’ve definitely borrowed something from the overdriven guitar style of British Blues.”

Why you should listen: We all know that Rockabilly and the 60’s theme is coming back into fashion, and this is a band who are truly passionate about their work. A band whose music can make you dance, make you feel nostalgic and make you want to have been there when this genre first evolved.

The next stages: The Blueswater are currently doing gigs around the Fife/Edinburgh area, with St Andrews being treated to a performance on Friday 26th of October at Aikmans Bar. They are, for those who venture outside St Andrews, playing “Speakeasy & Dance Hard” at the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh the night before where they are supporting Rob Heron and the Tea Pad Orchestra. Two pieces of undiscovered talent in one night? Groovy.

Hear ye: An album packed full of funky original tracks can be downloaded from the band’s bandcamp page, and you can also find them on facebook and Twitter @TheBlueswater
