The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A) has announced that they are creating a £500,000 scholarship for international students.
The R&A decided its endowment should be used to help international students who most require financial assistance. The scholarship notes that, “an interest in or aptitude for golf or other sports may be a consideration.”
The scholarship will help one international student pay for transportation, accommodation, and subsistence. As described by its creators, “The R&A International Scholarship will encourage students to broaden their minds in new, challenging and imaginative environments by funding international travel for undergraduates or recent graduates.”
Upon hearing about the new scholarship American student Lowell Brown commented, “I don’t see why they’re only willing to fund international travel. Reimbursing my taxi fares to the library would be an equally efficient way to broaden my mind.”
