The St Andrews Students’ Association (the Union) today launched the Your600th campaign. The campaign aims to raise money for the Association’s Prize Fund and promote student involvement in celebrating St Andrews’ 600th year.

The campaign looks to cover a wide variety of projects including creating a ‘Human Coat of Arms’ in the middle of Sallies Quad – students gathered in the shape of the University crest will wave and smile for a circling helicopter.

Other projects include a St Andrews float in the Lord Mayor’s Show and a 600th Anniversary publication written and edited by students.

Your600th will also be an opportunity to raise money for the Student Association’s Prize Fund, which aims to give £1,000 to an academically deserving but financially constrained student. Your600th aims to raise the endowment for this fund to £30,000 by the end of the academic year, so start fundraising!

The President of the Students’ Association, Freddie Fforde, hopes that Your600th will see students involved in all aspects of the campaign: “what makes it particularly special is the students who see our birthday as an opportunity to leave a legacy, to help others.”

Fourth year India Jaques told The Stand that she intended to apply to be in the Lord Mayor’s Show: “I haven’t worn my fruit hat and bikini in ages! Carnival, here I come.” Fellow fourth year, Liz Clark was similarly keen about the Your600th events, “I cannot wait to be part of the human shield!”
