After a week of megaphones, ruined bed-sheets, A LOT of flyers (sorry, rainforests), posters (again, sorry), biscuit bribery, a guitar or two, some kind of yoga class and even a sofa(..?) outside the library, St Andrews’ Elections 2k12 has ended.

Congratulations to all those who ran, especially the champs who successfully managed to juggle deadlines with winning over the St Andrean populace. Competition was tough.

The Stand caught a few words from your elated Sabbs-in-waiting straight after the votes came through:

Association President: Freddie Fforde

“I’m so excited to start the year ahead, it’s going to be a great one with such a strong sabbatical team. The one thing that has really marked these elections has been the strength of all the candidates – and that’s not just rhetoric – the number of votes and rounds proved that. The most important thing I have to do now is push my personal feelings aside and become YOUR president, not MY President.”

Director of Representation: Amanda Litherland

“I am absolutely thrilled. I am so happy. A massive thanks to everyone that voted and my campaign team. They are incredible and it’s all down to them. I’m really excited about next year and in particular working on a 24hr library. I’ve had a lot of support on that. Making school presidents bigger and better, launching a mentor system… I really can’t wait for next year. Finally, the turnout was incredible. When the vote hit 4,000 we all went mental!”

Director of Student Development and Activities: Meg Platt

(we found her in the middle of her celebration party) “I’m feeling really tired right now but so excited. I think it was a fantastic turnout and I’m so, so proud of St Andrews.”

Director of Events and Services: Jules Findlay

“I’m amazed at the turnout for the election and I think its a huge kudos to St Andrews that so many people came out to vote. Well done to everyone that voted. Thank you. I’d really like to thank my whole campaign team, especially Seth Kitson and Dave ‘Fifa’ Gossage who ran a strong campaign himself. It’s a shame he didn’t get elected. I’dalso like to thank David Graves who’s pulled this election out the bag and run a very strong election week. I’m really looking forward to next year and booking some massive acts for freshers’ week. It’s going to be off the scale so get excited Stand readers.”

Athletics Union President: Emily Griffiths

We… actually didn’t manage to catch up with Emily (interview coming soon!), but we’ve heard she’s excited as well.

That’s all folks! (Until the same mayhem next year).
