This week the Standtorialist specifically sought out stylish menswear in St Andrews. Here’s what she found.

From what I have learned this week, a disclaimer is apparently needed: please do not be frightened if I’m chasing you down in-and-around the library or in the Tesco queue!

As for male St Andrean fashion, it’s not nearly as varied as what I can find with the girls here. The boys here are somewhat…preppy? In looking for my latest victims I’ve seen a lot of chinos, button-ups and v-neck jumpers; however, I have also seen variation in the way these staple pieces are worn and here is what I found…

Matthew:  Topman enthusiast. N. Irish style at it’s best.

Kian:  Sleek German style – juxtaposition between a H&M coat, Dior Homme jeans and funky sneakers.

Brook:  Always wearing brightly coloured button downs and slim fitting trousers. All boys should throw away their white gym socks and wear eye-popping dress socks. His style secret: “My mum chooses all my clothes!”

Hugo:  Scandinavian style at its best. Mixture of different textures and colours to complete the look, we’re talking tweed, corduroy, wool, cotton and beads!

Canadian (I forgot to ask your name!):  For Barbour disbelievers, this Canadian clearly knows how to make it work with a bow tie from J. Crew mixed with pieces from Club Monaco.

Alex:  Grandfather’s vintage Abercrombie and Fitch jumper and a quirky tuna belt from Vinyard Vines.

Standtorialist Style Tip (from Canada!): when tying your shoelaces, go twice around before you pull the loop through. Every hockey (ice, that is) player knows this trick and not only is it practical because your laces won’t come undone it looks better too! Someone asked me why not three times around? My answer is no, three times is awkward, try it and you’ll understand what I mean.
