Live updates of the St Andrews round of Voice Festival UK (FVUK)

Welcome to The Stand’s live action, blow-by-blow, note-by-note account of the St Andrews round of VFUK (how do we say this?). If you’re reading this, why the hell aren’t you here?

10:10pm: Oh Dear!! Winner was misheard as The Alleycats, huge celebrations, and then clarified that the winner was The Other Guys. Feel terrible for all involved.

Vocal precussion winner: Cammy Dobbie from The Alleycats

Soloist winner: Vicki Robertson and Grace Hardy from The Accidentals

Online poll winners (who would you like to May Dip with): Choral Stimulation

Outstanding peformance: The Other Guys

Outstanding choreography: Philip De Winter Shaw from the Alleycats

That’s it for the night. Videos up soon. Good night!

8:50pm: That was the last group! The judges are out and everyone is comparing notes. A really friendly atmosphere where every team encouraged and whooped all the others. The Stand’s guess on the winners… The Alleycats (but to be honest, every group really was incredible).

8:45pm: St Andrews’ very own The Other Guys did an amazing set which started with a very well choreographed version of Van Morrisson’s ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’, and ended with a song written especially for St Andrews: ‘St Andrews Girls’  (their take on Katy Perry’s ‘California Girls’), which included the lines ‘you can travel the world, but nothing comes close to the East Fife coast’.

8:30pm: Aberpella – The first-timers from Aberdeen (could you tell?) just finished. They came out hitting with an upbeat ‘My Little Valentine’, and wrapped up with a great mashup of Rusted Root’s ‘Send Me on My Way’ and Shakira’s ‘Waka Waka’ (with, ‘it’s time for Aberpella’ replacing ‘Africa’)!

8:20pm: Hummingbirds did a wonderful set! ‘Waterfalls’ and Goyte’s ‘Somebody that I Used to Know’ were great and their remixes of various love songs to fit St Andrews really went down well. Lines included, “won’t you be mine, eyes meeting in the Tesco line”!

8:05pm: Choral Stimulation just finished and did a fantastic Queen mash-up that included Radio Gaga and a very well received strip tease at the words, ‘Flash’. The Glasgow visitors finished off with a great mash-up of Coldplay’s Viva la Vida and the Pokemon theme song – very inspirational!

7:55pm: The Alleycats just did THE MOST INCREDIBLE set! It included ‘You Are The Best Thing’ by Ray Lamontagne and ‘Titanium’ (beatboxer, Cammy, was really showing off his skills here).

7:45pm: Accidentals looking pretty in pink! Songs included a mix of N-DUBZs No.1 (mashed with ‘Fire Burning on the Dance Floor’) and a ’70s disco mashup. Very slick, great choreography. The audience loved it! Alleycats next!

7:30pm: “We say VFUK, you say: Yeah!” The Accidentals are first up!

7pm: Younger Hall is packed (1000+ people) and everyone is chatting away nervously making their predictions for the night. To warm us up, here’s a quick interview with The Other Guys.
