Three arrested after man stabbed in Southampton city centre park

An attempted murder investigation has been launched


Police were called to East Park, off Cumberland Place, just before 8pm yesterday after a man was stabbed.

After reports of a serious assault, a 35-year-old Southampton man was taken to hospital and found to have suffered severe stab wounds to his back. He is in a stable condition but has suffered life-threatening injuries.

According to the Daily Echo, an ambulance, air ambulance and a rapid response vehicle were all sent to the scene. The man was then rushed to hospital.

A 23-year-old man, a 23-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man have been taken into custody on the suspicion of attempted murder.

A South Central Ambulance Service spokesperson has said: "We received a 999 call at 7.53pm with the caller reporting a serious assault by the memorial on Brunswick Place.

"We sent a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to the scene and one patient was taken by road to University Hospital Southampton in a life-threatening condition."

A spokeswoman for the Hampshire Police said: “Part of East Park has been cordoned off to allow for officers to carry out enquiries at the scene this morning. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 101 and quote 44190077228."
