Dom BakerThe UCU and UUK have reached an agreement and strikes are expected to be suspended from and including Wednesday 14 March after UCU conducts an internal meeting tomorrow.
The UCU is also expected to encourage its members to prioritise the rescheduling of lectures and seminars for students.
The deal that has been made is to leave pensions as they are until April 2019 when a three-year transition period will begin. Within these three years both employers and employees of the USS pension scheme will increase their contributions in order to slightly reduce the fund's gaping deficit. Negotiations will continue throughout these three years with the hope of reaching a permanent solution.
