VP Student Communities Candidate Interview: Harvey Rickatson

Here’s what he had to say

Elections season is upon us, and as such the Tab have conducted interviews with all of the candidates. Here’s what VP Student Communities candidate Harvey Rickatson had to say!
What made you want to run for a Sabb position?
I feel like it’s the perfect way for me to make positive change and help people within an environment that I’ve absolutely loved being a part of. It’ll be rewarding as a job dedicated to students and very educational and challenging for me personally.
What’s your favourite point in your manifesto?
My favourite point is more projects with other Sabbs, including things like my #SUSUstandswith campaign. There’s so much opportunity to show unification and strength in the Sabb team by working together. It will encourage more involvement from the student body as well!
Why are you the best person for this role?
Well I wouldn’t necessarily say I am better than anyone, those whom I am running against are all lovely people and each bring something different to the table that means they’d do an amazing job. In my case, I would say I bring a willingness to learn from those I am representing, and a passion for making people feel happy, safe and included.

What do you think is currently the weakest area of SUSU?
I think perhaps the connecting of Sabbs to students (as much as it has very much improved this year) still has a way to go in terms of students knowing who/where they are etc., hopefully that will be something I have the opportunity to help improve!
What are you least looking forward to during your election campaign?
I’ve heard it gets very tricky juggling your degree and campaigning, so that sounds like it’s gonna be fun!
Snog, marry and avoid: Theresa May, Boris Johnson or Jeremy Corbyn?
I would probably snog Theresa May, marry Jezza Corbs and avoid the Boris!
What is your favourite Soton night out?
My favourite Soton night out, despite having not actually gone for a while, Stag’s Karaoke. It’s so fun and someone you’re mates with will always be there.
Who is your dream dinner date?
My dream dinner date would probably be Zach Braff, both because I’m a huge fan and he just looks like he’d be a laugh!
