Southampton is the fourth most oversubscribed university in the UK

It’s more competitive than you think

According to UCAS data, Southampton is in fourth place of the most oversubscribed universities in the UK, with just over 8.68 applicants per place.

The university is closely followed by Manchester and Bristol. However much to people’s surprise, Cambridge is 45th in place for the most oversubscribed to university, with just 4.9 applicants per place.

In 2016, the University of Southampton received 3,010 applicants for Medicine and Dentistry. Of them, a mere 240 were accepted, just over 12 applicants per place.
So, although Southampton may have fallen slightly in the official university rankings, it is clearly still one of the most popular universities in the country.
