BREAKING: Fire breaks out in Bevois Valley

Firefighters had been tackling the blaze since 11.50

A fire broke out on Empress road in Southampton. Crews attended the scene at around 11.50 am this morning.

The road was closed as ambulances and fire engines attended the incident.

It is believed to have started out in the roof of a building.

Incident commander, Kevin Evenett, has said: “We have 79 personnel on scene and ten pumps. We will be here for a while yet damping down, as there are multiple businesses affected…It would appear they are all interlinked but fortunately everyone was out when we arrived. ..It’s definitely a reasonable size incident, and that thick black smoke is tyres, grime and oil…Cars were involved in the fire, but we do not know how many. The roof of the building has collapsed in on itself.”

Firefighters have confirmed everyone has been accounted for.

South Central Ambulance have warned residents of the area to keep their windows closed and for everyone else to avoid the area.

The fire has since been stopped.
