My food waste challenge

7 weeks, 13 miles, with only bin food for dinner!

Let’s feed bellies not bins

I write this short introduction whilst stuffing my face with some of the 78 pancakes I collected from one supermarket, just last night. These pancakes are just a tiny glimpse of the astonishing volume of food that is wasted from production to our kitchen cupboards.

I have supplemented my weekly shop with bin food for about a year, but now it’s time to take it a few steps further.

I will attempt to live of nothing but food waste for 7 weeks in the build up to the Southampton half marathon WHILST training. I will be diving into the town dumpster 3-4 times a week to gather my food supplies and with the help of fellow freegans I don’t think I am going to starve.

This is all in protest to the 1.3 billion tonnes of food wasted every year.

We will prove this food isn’t “unfit” for human consumption as it can power myself and a team of volunteers to run 13.1 miles.

In Southampton alone we (Curb) have collected 14,555 kg of food in just two years.

I will also be fundraising so please give what ever you feel the cause is worth by clicking here
