Human remains found in Southampton Riverside Park

Investigations are ongoing

A large section of Riverside Park in Southampton has been cordoned off after the discovery of human remains in the area.

Skeletal remains were discovered in a wooded area near the White Swan pub on Mansbridge Road. A tent was set up in the area and part of the park was closed off.

Hampshire police have contacted the family of Ovidijus Aukselis, a 22 year old man who disappeared in Southampton last July. However, identification of the remains has not yet taken place and investigations are still being carried out at the scene.

Then man had reportedly been sending messages to his ex-girlfriend via Skype on the morning that he vanished. She claimed that it “may have been difficult for him to speak to her” but insists that they were not arguing.

His phone was tracked to Portswood days after his disappearance, but the trail went cold when his phone battery died.

A spokesman from Hampshire police said: “We are unable to confirm any further details as investigations are at a very early stage, however we are not treating the death as suspicious at this time.”
