With the Olympics well underway we’re taking a moment to celebrate the fantastic achievements of Southampton’s own Olympians.

Lily (known as ‘Golden Lily’ in China) studied for her Master’s degree in International Management at Southampton. She’s already taken home a bronze medal in the Women’s Laser Radial in 2008 and a gold medal in the same event in London 2012 and now she’s aiming to defend her title and bring home another medal for China.

Hot on her heels is Alison Young, who competes in the same event and placed fifth in the 2012 Olympics. Alison graduated from Southampton with a first in Civil Engineering. She’s
well on her way to achieving a medal at Rio having had some fantastic results already this year.

The 7th preliminary race for this discipline was today (Friday 12th) at 17.05pm with the medal race on Monday 15th at 17.05pm.

Southampton Business school graduate Ben Saxton competes with his partner Nicola Groves in the Mixed Narca 17. Ben, who graduated from Southampton Business School, and Nicola are making their Olympic debut this year and have eager eyes for a medal and are currently in third place having completed race six.

The seventh race for this pair is on Saturday 13th at 17.05pm with the medal race at 18.05pm on Tuesday 16th.

Also hoping to bring home another medal is Pavlos Kontides, who sails in the Mens Laser class. He won Cyprus’ first ever olympic medal – taking home the silver in London 2012. Pavlos studied Ship Science and graduated in 2013 after suspending his studies to focus on sailing.

His 7th race is today at 17.15pm and the medal race is at 18.05pm on Monday 15th.

The very best of luck to all of our Southampton Olympians!
