Monte Netballers spend £600 winnings on epic night out

They won £1000 in the Yubl competition

Monte’s netball team spent hundred of pounds on a giant night out in Oceana to celebrate their Yubl app win.

Some of the team – from left to right – Alice (Music), Harley (Politics and Economics), Emily (Economics), Emily (Maths), Alicia (Criminology and Psychology), Ling (Geology), Bethany (French and English), Sophie (Cardiac physiology), Ida (Politics and economics), Sophie (English and history), Sophie (Politics and international relations), Aimee (Economics), Emma (Acoustic engineering), Laura (Civil Engineering)

In the competition ran by Yubl (rhymes with bubble), they had to say what they would do to win £1000 and were voted for on the new social network app.

The team donated a third of their winnings to CALM – a charity dedicated to male suicide prevention in the UK. Team member Ling Zhang, a 2nd year Geology student, said “we chose this as one of our netball members was recently affected by this. So thank you Yubl for letting us do that and for also giving Monte Netball a fab end to the year!”

The rest of the cash went on a night of epic proportions in Oceana, with VIP and plenty of booze.

Laura McFadzean, 4th year Civil Engineering student, said “Before we joined the competition, the majority of us had never heard of Yubl. Yubl turned out to be an interesting social media app, and unique to other existing apps. However, above all, through the money from the competition we were able to donate a generous amount of money to the charity CALM, which is very close to our hearts, and spend the remainder of an epic night as VIPs in Oceana to end the academic year and give out leavers a send off they’ll remember. Or not, due to the excessive alcohol consumption.

Elly Lambourn, a 1st year Criminology and Psychology student, said “It was great to win the competition, even if it wasn’t based on our netball abilities, we definitely made the most of the grand! Oceana VIP was an experience to say the least, with the money mainly going towards plenty of liquids for our hardworking teammates. I’m sure any CCTV from our room would provide entertainment for all the family. Thanks Yubl!”

Congratulations to the Monte Netballers for their win!
