The family of the former University of Southampton student have given a touching tribute saying they are “totally devastated”.

Carl Langdell, 26, was charged with her murder on Christmas Day and was remanded into custody. He will appear at St Albans Crown Court on January 8.

Ms Locke had been living in Essex and working as a teacher, a profession she trained to go in to while at Southampton.

A tribute from her family read: “As a family we are distraught, in shock and totally devastated.

“There was not a bad bone in Katie’s body.

“Katie worked hard and loved her job as a teacher. In what little spare time she had, she enjoyed sports.

“We now feel like our future has been stolen from us.”
