The University of Southampton has risen two places in the latest Complete University Guide league tables.

Southampton has climbed into 14th place out of 126, above the likes of Bristol, York and Birmingham.

The news comes only weeks after Southampton fell again in the Student Satisfaction Rankings.

Student Satisfaction is the main attribute holding Southampton back, scoring a relatively low 4.05 compared to the rest of the top 20.

Nonetheless, Southampton seems to have recovered from a recent overall decline, having dropped from 14th to 20th between 2012 and 2014.

Unsurprisingly, Cambridge is in first place, and St. Andrews is the highest placed non-Russell group University in fifth.

A good omen from the rankings is the news that the University of Surrey, currently run by soon-to-be Southampton’s new VC Professor Sir Christopher Snowden, is now eighth in the rankings having enjoyed a meteoric rise up the rankings over the past few years.

Hopefully this success can be recreated at Southampton.
