Anyone living in Portswood will have noticed that a flashy new spot has opened up opposite Waitrose- that new restaurant/shisha/gelato bar is called Aroma Lounge.
Having heard that it’s worth checking out, I decided to venture on down to see whether it was worth the praise.
A comfortable yellow and black leather setting that is far from tacky. The tables and floors all seemed clean which is good.
There’s an extensive menu with food that students may not often get to experience, and at reasonable prices.
Ok- it’s not an incredibly flashy menu – but their mix grill was very tasty and worth the money. The choices range from comfort food, such as lamb chops, to more interesting options such as chicken Tajin.
There is also a ten percent off student offer on food, which is always appreciated.
After the main course you can try something a little sweeter. I’m going to stick my neck out here and say I actually enjoyed the gelato more than Sprinkles. Plus it’s all made with fresh fruit and on site.
They have also employed over twenty Southampton students, which is always a bonus for the student population.
Overall, I was impressed with Aroma Lounge. I went expecting average food with the gimmick of shisha outside to bring people in, but I was wrong.
The staff we’re incredibly friendly and helpful, and it have to say I definitely left with a smile on my face and would recommend it to anyone who fancies a good meal in a relaxed atmosphere. It caters for students and families.
I also sampled some of the shisha. There was an interesting range available, with flavours that were far from generic and you would almost certainly not find in your usual shisha bar. It was pretty cold outside though.
