Southampton Vixens cheerleading squad took their first competition of the season by storm last weekend, following incredible performances in both the Competitive Cheer and Hip Hop Dance divisions.
Competing in the all-girl level four division, the competition squad, also known as Reign, were ecstatic to secure first place, despite facing tough competition from a plethora of University and Allstar teams.
Yet, the achievements didn’t stop there and the Vixens saw success across the board.
Dynasty, the first ever Game Day co-ed level 3 stunt group achieved first place. Meanwhile, Royalty, a group also comprising of Game Day Vixens soared to success, securing first place in the all girl level 3 division, unperturbed by the fact that that had not competed before.
Majestic, the team’s dance squad pictured below, danced their socks off to secure second place in the senior hip-hop division, rounding off the weekend with a bang.
Sophie Phipps, one of the girls from the Majestic dance squad, told us about the tough competition they faced on the day:
We all had so much fun performing it at comp – it’s such an unreal experience! We had lots of comments about our energy and enthusiasm which is always great to hear. It’s a shame we lost out to oblivion but they are an all-star team who executed everything so well and were really clean, so I think they deserved to win. Now we can just work on improving for the next one!
We also spoke to Danuta Kwiatkowski, one of the competition squad’s coaches. Here’s what she had to say following the squad’s incredible success:
This year we had exactly 50% freshers on our Comp squad ‘Supremacy’ and a lot of these girls had no previous experience in cheer. We enter the senior level 3 division which is against non university teams so being able to train these girls to even compete at this level is a huge achievement in itself.
Our two level 3 stunt groups are comprised of Gameday members. They both placed first in their divisions which obviously is amazing and goes to show that Gameday have definitely stepped it up.
Our level 4 stunt group also placed first, the routine was actually only put together the previous weekend and practiced only three times prior to competition. We were happy it hit let alone to come away with first place.
The Vixens continue to build on their successes from last year and we wish them every luck for their upcoming competitions.
