With outstanding customer service and even better food, it looks like the Cowherds has met its match.

The Soton Tab had a sneak peek into a typical Sunday Lunch at the Grazing Goat, and we liked what we saw.

Located less than a twenty minute walk from Portswood, the posh pub is merely a stone’s throw from Highfield Church in an ideal location.

A quick stroll to walk off a great meal!

The shabby-chic décor gave the recently opened pub a vintage feel with a clean, modern twist. The crackling fire and cosy armchairs keep you warm while it’s raining cats and dogs outside.

A typical Sunday lunch sees the tables overflowing with customers and weekdays are much the same. You may encounter the odd pushchair as The Grazing Goat is popular with all ages.

The roast beef boasted a huge Yorkshire pudding, surplus amounts of meat and a surprisingly wide variety of vegetables seen below. For no extra cost, mixed side vegetables of cabbage and kale filled your plate to breaking point.

Hidden under the layers of meat is cauliflower, mashed butternut squash and delicious gravy.

Not a roast-lover? Their beef burger was to die for. Far too large to eat in one piece, the burger poses a difficult challenge before the chips are even considered.

Quite a mouthful!

The friendly staff provided an enjoyable atmosphere and navigated the busy tables in style. Despite the long wait between courses – which isn’t much of a problem when dealing with a major food baby – the food was faultless and extremely good quality.

A rich, chocolatey experience with smooth toffee ice cream (even though the menu said vanilla!)

Just a taster of some of the impressive desserts on offer! (Panna cota and a chocolate brownie)

The only fault found at the Grazing Goat was the bill. Everyone loves student prices and that is not what you’ll find there.

But the quality of food, the great service and the atmosphere make it the perfect place to go when your parents are down, or when you want to splash out on a hot date.

And if you and your pals are looking for a way to celebrate the festive season, book your Christmas meal there for a guaranteed good meal in a classy place.
