Anjit Aulakh will be your VP Communities for the upcoming year after winning the by-election yesterday.

After the mysterious withdrawal of Oli Coles from the role of VP Communities for his second term, it was announced in The Bridge last night that Anjit Aulakh won the by-election for the position for the 2014-2015 term.

You can read Anjit’s manifesto here. Voting opened at 12pm on Wednesday 11th June and closed at 5pm on Friday 13th and Anjit wasn’t going to let us forget…

The VP Communities role covers everything from JCRs to international students as well as students at sites, postgraduate and mature students and student parents. More information on this can be read here.

Anjit was up against Thomas Coole, Ben Hansen Hicks, David Heard, Liv House, Aaron Mulford, Anjali Parshotam and Thomas Rogers. There were a total of 826 votes cast, for a breakdown of the results click here.

We caught up with Anjit and he said:

It still hasn’t sunk in but I’d like to thank each and every campaign member of mine and everyone who voted for me as well and special thanks to my family.

Earlier on in the year Anjit ran for VP DCI but lost out to Megan Downing.

When the news broke about Oli he said:

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time this year at SUSU. I’ve worked with some amazing people over the last 12 months, and hope that the projects I’ve worked on will create positive change for students in the future. This was a hard decision for me to make.

Anjit will be joining David Mendoza-Wolfson, Megan Downing, Sophia D’Angelico, Ellie Cawthera, Katie Lightowler, and Beckie Thomas to make up the 2014-2015 sabbatical team. They all officially take over from July 1st 2014.
