A BURGLAR broke in to a student house in Highfield last night, stealing a laptop.

Burglars targeted the house, on Upper Shaftesbury Avenue, at around 10pm last night.

The burglary took place on Upper Shaftesbury Avenue, between Uni and Portswood

The burglar broke in by throwing a 20kg concrete BREEZE BLOCK through the window of an empty downstairs bedroom, in front of a desk and chair, and stole a laptop from the room.

Burglars threw a 20kg breeze block through the window behind this chair – which was luckily empty at the time

The breeze block, which weighs about 20kg, could cause serious injury. The resident was not in the bedroom at the time of the break in

University holidays are typically accompanied by a rise in the number of break-ins, as most student houses are empty. The police warned last week of an increase in burglaries in Portswood:

Remember to do all you can to secure your house, and report any suspicious behaviour in your area by calling the police on 101.
