Police are calling for witnesses after a man was robbed and then seriously sexually assaulted in Southampton yesterday.

It is believed that the victim, a 19 year old male, was getting cash out by Tescos in St Mary’s Street before being robbed by an unknown man.

The same victim was then seriously sexually assaulted in the church yard area of St Mary’s Church, off St Mary’s Street, Southampton.

The incident occurred at around 3:15am on March 15th.

Detective Inspector Dave Jackson said:

I would like to hear from anyone who was in the St Mary’s Street area from about 3am, who may have seen an altercation at and adjacent to the cash machine outside Tesco Express.

I would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen a group of men in the church yard between about 2.45 am and 3.30, as they may have vital information which could help this investigation.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Det Insp Jackson at Southampton Central Police Station on 101, or call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
