STREAKER at Solent Graduation

A Southampton Solent graduation ceremony was interrupted by a streaker on Wednesday!

The event at the Guildhall was nearly over when a man in the crowd stood up, got naked and ran around in a gold thong.

The hilarious stunt was all part of a bet between Solent student Tom Ryder and his housemate. Tom’s housemate, the streaker in question who wishes to remain nameless, didn’t believe that Tom would graduate.

Tom, 22, who studied Yacht Production and Survey, told the Daily Echo

He bet me I would not graduate and said if I did then he would streak at my graduation ceremony. The penalty for not doing it would have been me shaving both his eyebrows off!

The incident happened towards the back of the crowd, leaving staff on stage struggling to contain their laughter.

Tom went on to say

It was a shame really because as I walked over to collect my degree I couldn’t really see what was going on. I heard someone shout my name in the crowd and saw some clothes flying before I heard lots of laughter.

The ceremony was filmed but unfortunately the incident wasn’t caught, only the reactions of those on stage.

An Interior Architecture graduate present at the ceremony who wishes to remain anonymous also said:

It was over in a flash but it did make graduation more bearable so I don’t think people were annoyed.

A spokesman for the University said:

We thought it was a bit of light-hearted fun. It’s a great day for graduates and that added to the excitement of the occasion! It’s a shame our official photographer missed it, which we have all been teasing him about!

The streaker ran straight out of the Guildhall and left his clothes behind.
