According to a new league table, Universities in the UK produce the second highest number of millionaires in the world after the US, with Southampton University making it to 150th.

Research company WealthInsight and business magazine Spear’s created the table after compiling a database of 70,000 dollar millionaires in more than 200 countries. The league table included 42 UK universities including the likes of Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool and Bradford making it into the top 500 and Oxford and Cambridge making it into the top 10.

Southampton’s success can be attributed to the fact that engineering degrees produce the most millionaires, while MBAs, law, accounting, and finance also lead to financial success, areas which Southampton excels in. The study found that many engineers and law and politics graduates go on to become entrepreneurs, producing many of the millionaires questioned.

The top five are: Harvard University (USA), Harvard Business School (USA), Stanford University (USA), University of California (USA) and Columbia University (USA).

This list follows on from Wealth-X’s University Rich List which showed which Russell Group universities produce the richest graduates.
