It’s 10am. You blearily attempt to open your eyes, probably glued together with last night’s mascara. Trying to move, you’re forced back to the safe haven of the pillow by a splitting headache. “I’m NEVER drinking again” circles your head on repeat (Let’s face it, you will.). When you finally manage to turn over, God only knows what you’ll be confronted with or how you’ll deal with it. (Last night’s kebab or conquest, you never know.)

Give it a few hours and you’re going to start craving all the crap food you can possible lay your shaking hands on. Now, while a greasy fry up might be the first thing that you reach for, take a second to read this and consider the foods you should be eating to help ease the infamous Jesters hangover.

Fundamentally, the reason you get a hangover is because you’re dehydrated (that’s not a cue to have another Jesticle… although hair of the dog must be useful for something). So when you stumble into your house at the end of the night, drink water. LOTS of water. Trust me, your body will thank you for it. When you wake up the next morning – or more likely, the afternoon – drink more. Water that is. Re-hydrating your body is the best way to help your liver through the trashing you gave it the previous night.

Now for the good, greasy bit.. Or not so much. Food. Everyone’s different, some can’t face the thought of food with a hangover, let alone the reality of it, while others want to stuff their faces with anything and everything. I most definitely fall into the second category, so have devised the perfect hangover menu to help you recover quicker.

Breakfast- Even if you don’t normally eat it, hungover you wants it. Start with some toast, something bland which should help if your stomach’s feeling a little delicate. Got the shakes? Your blood sugar is low, so have a banana as well. Wash all this down with WATER, not caffeine. Coffee dehydrates you, so steer clear of them until the next day.

Lunch- You should be starting to feel more like a human now and less like a cast member from Dawn of the Dead, so you can try and handle something a bit more substantial. Fill up on some protein, like a chicken wrap, or scrambled eggs with more toast. MORE WATER.

Dinner- Now you can try to eat something a bit fattier. I’d go with some noodles, stir fried with some meat, whatever you’ve got kicking about. If you must order a takeaway because you’re ‘too hungover to cook’ then go for a Chinese, with something stodgy like chow mein and rice.

Have an early night and sleep the rest of your hangover off, and you should be ready to do it all over again the next night! Sobar anyone?
