A 38- year- old man is in an induced coma with a fractured skull after being attacked on the corner of Above Bar Street early last night.

At roughly 7:30pm on August 27th the victim was in a group with two men and two women on the corner of Above Bar Street and New Road. The group was approached by a man and a woman and the man punched the victim’s head from behind.

The blow to the head caused the victim to fall to the floor causing him to hit his head on the pavement resulting in a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain.

The attacker swiftly walked away from the scene along New Road towards the Civic Centre.

The victim is currently at Southampton General Hospital in a serious but currently stable condition.

Just before 1am this morning a 42- year– old Southampton woman was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm. She has been bailed pending further enquiries and is to report back to police on October 23rd.

Police are still continuing to search for the male attacker.
