The Rockstone Reels In An Award

That’s right, everyone’s favourite pub has finally been given recognition on a national scale, scooping the coveted Best Cask Beer Pub in the South-East and London region.

Amazingly, this achievement means that they are now in the running for OVERALL CHAMPION in the Great British Pub Awards 2013, meaning that, if they win, Southampton could lay claim to having the BEST PUB IN BRITAIN!

These prestigious awards have been fought over since 2001, and although the South-East and London region category does not cover the whole country, any title which takes into account the nation’s capital is always going to be the most fiercely contested.

Regulars of the friendly, but viciously tasty establishment, will be wondering why it has taken this long for it to be given an award, with glowing reviews from MSN, Trip Advisor and of course, The Tab.  The cask beer award then, should hopefully be the first of many, and with the numerous mouth-watering delights being served up by head chef and Rockstone supremo Max Greenwood, a ‘best food’ award should not be far around the corner.

It’s great to get some recognition on the national stage, but as I’d  first like to say that, we are blown away by the local support so far! Bevois Valley is such a homely place for us to live, with great neighbours, great regulars and great customers. Everyday we meet new people and make new friends, and that is what it’s all about.

It’s great to have awards, and plaques and such, but it’s really all about life on the home front.

We are only a great pub because of what you guys make us! It’s what motivates us, and gets us up in the morning and gives us the energy to go on striving to be the best, because I think Southampton deserves it.

We couldn’t ask for a better team of staff, and I we couldn’t have done it without the my wife Aimee, the landlady. She is a constant source of inspiration and the driving force behind us. With her on our team, we’ll be unstoppable.

It would be great to be crowned “Best Pub Ever” in Britain, but to know that we have already beaten LONDON is pretty darn amazing!

Can’t wait for next year, and a new batch of regulars!

The Rockstone is based at the intersection of Onslow Road and Rockstone Lane, only a few hundred yards from Sobar and Jesters, this is a MUST VISIT for any Southampton student… we recommend heading along on a Thursday night when it is two burgers for £18, or Tuesday when you can get a Tex-Mex meal for £8!
