Students were shocked to day with the sudden arrival of emergency services and a HazMat team to the university interchange this afternoon.

Uni-link and the police have confirmed that it is a diesel fuel leak from a Uni-link bus.

Police officers had followed the bus to the interchange after spotting the leak whilst driving along The Avenue. Police reassured students that they were only there for safety reasons.

One student told the Tab:

It was outrageous! The leak started on the Avenue so it’s been spewing its liquids all over Southampton!

The Uni-link bus service is reported to be unaffected by the incident.

In an unrelated incident ambulances arrived shortly after police had cordoned off the leaking bus. The ambulances were attending a minor staff injury in building 32.
