Last month SUSUPA Dance cleared up at not just one, but TWO country-wide competitions.

The Ballroom and Latin Dance Society went to Blackpool for the Inter Varsity Dance Competition, where they placed in several categories. They took 1st place in Beginner Waltz (congratulations to Conrad and Amy) and in Ex-Student Novice Waltz and Quickstep (Alex and Emma).

In Ex-Student 5 dance, Alex and Kirsty won 2nd place, in Novice Waltz & Quickstep, Gareth and Mellissa won 3rd, as well as the accolade of ‘Most Promising Couple’. Commendations also go to Lachlan and Helena for Beginner Quickstep, where they placed 4th, and to Dave and Adele who came 5th in Ex-Student 5 Dance.

Furthermore, in Latin Dance Chris and Hattie came 1st in Ex-Student Novice ChaCha and Jive and Berny and Steph matched this in Ex-Student 5 dance, where Matt and Lou came 2nd.  By all accounts, this is a clean sweep of real achievements as standard at these competitions is very high and SUBLDS are understandably proud of themselves. Congratulations to all involved.

Whilst all of this was going on in Blackpool, the ‘biggest competition of the year’ was taking place in Loughborough at the Loughborough Student Dance Competition. Advanced Ballet took 1st Place for the 3rd year running, Advanced Jazz 2nd and Advanced Tap came 3rd. With 20 odd dances in each category, this is no mean feat by any stretch, and a heartfelt well done is sent to all involved.

As if two competitions wasn’t enough, the squads also competed at Buck New Uni competition on the 9th of February, where 1st place was won in Advanced Ballet, Advanced Jazz, Advanced Tap, and Novice Jazz.

Overall, a clear run of success for SUSUPADance, topped off by the fantastic performance at Pure Dance, the society is clearly moving from strength to strength.

Thanks to Josh Tipping, Fiona Davey, and Cathy Salmon. We wish continued success to all the dancers involved in these competitions.
